CHAPTER TEN

“What is— Is this a dog toy?” Samantha stared down at her hand, in which she clasped a red rubber toy shaped like a bone. Some of the heat that had flared when Elijah had clamped the cuffs around her wrists and carried her across the play area floor seemed to cool. “Is this another guard dog joke?”

Elijah snorted in the most undignified sound she’d ever heard come out of such a suave man. He paused in the act of sifting through the large leather satchel he’d referred to as his “toy bag” and, leaning over, squeezed the toy in question.

It squeaked. She looked from the toy to Elijah, and back to the toy again.

“You won’t be able to speak for what I have planned for you.” Elijah smiled at her in a way she loved, that decidedly sinful curve of the lips that caused the space between her legs to ache with desire for him. Wariness combined with the heat, waking the nerve endings all over her body.

“I won’t be able to speak?” She craned her neck, trying to see what he was taking out of the bag. A tub of what she assumed was some kind of lotion, a leather strap with a circular ring in the middle of it, a pair of—were those tweezers? Two silky pink scarves followed, causing her to raise an eyebrow.

“Pink?” she asked. Samantha was reminded of the polo shirt Elijah had worn that first time he had come to her house, the time she had shown him how to breathe life into glass.

On him, pink wasn’t a color for a girl. It was sexy.

“I like the color.” His expression was unapologetic as he crooked his finger at her, beckoning her forward. “Especially when it’s against the soft skin of a woman.”

Wrapping his hand in her braid, he pushed gently on her head, urging her downward. “On your knees, kitty cat.”

Samantha did as she was ordered, her pulse beginning to race.

“Hands behind your back.”

Slowly, Samantha rolled her shoulders, then clasped her hands together at the small of her back. The squeaky toy was still clutched tightly in her fingers, and when Elijah knelt behind her, he adjusted her fingers so that she had a better grip on it.

“I’m tying your hands with one of the scarves.”

Samantha felt the silk wind around her wrists, felt it pull snugly as he fastened it. As she’d learned to expect, Elijah slid a finger between the restraint and her skin, ensuring that it wasn’t too tight.

“I’m going to do the same thing to your ankles.”

Samantha shivered when she felt the brush of silk over her calves and the soles of her feet in a teasing caress, awakening each spot that it touched.

She heard a hum of satisfaction, and then felt him stand again, circling back in front of her. She watched warily as he picked up the black strap with the ring, holding it out for her to see.

“This is called an O-ring gag.”

A small sound escaped Samantha’s lips as the words sank in.
